We are proud to announce our Annual Conference flyer is now live on our social platforms. With this year’s theme being “Equality, Inclusion and the Climate Crisis” we thought it only right to round up some of the best in the business. Our fantastic lineup of speakers and panellists all boast world-class knowledge in their subject fields and no doubt have plenty of wisdom to share. We thought we’d give you a quick run down to get familiar before the event. 

 

Sir Andy Haines

Keynote speaker Sir Andy Haines is regarded as an expert on climate change and its impact on human health. Whilst working as a GP Andy recognised the critical link between our health and the worsening state of our planet. He now holds an impressive portfolio of achievements, both within healthcare and academia. He has been the driving force behind research in the environmental science stratosphere and is currently a Professor of Environmental Change and Public Health at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. He was recently awarded the 2022 Tyler Prize for Environmental Achievement to recognise his 30+ year commitment to understanding the impacts of environmental change on human health. 

 

Dr Sung Kyu Kim

Speaker Dr Sung Kyu Kim is currently a lecturer in Energy Policy and Sustainability at the University of Sussex. Sung Kyu’s work is centred around the role of smallholder farming in the future of agriculture and sustainable development. His research explores the dynamic processes and multifaceted nature of farming and livelihood practices of farmers by using a mixed method approach. His passion for sustainable farming has led to research in small-scale farming all over the globe, from Rwanda to Canada and all the way back here to the UK!

 

Razia Aziz

Event Chair Razia Aziz is the Founding Director of Waytu and the Equality Academy. Razia spent the first six years of her life in West Africa and after returning to the UK, she gained first-hand experience of being an ‘immigrant’ in Britain. Starting her professional journey as a Cambridge alumni, she went on to complete a Master of Philosophy at the University of Sussex. She has studied and worked professionally in the field of diversity, equality and inclusion professionally for over 20 years as a researcher, writer, coach, consultant, trainer and facilitator.

 

Kevin Richmond

Panellist Kevin Richmond has been Chief Executive of Sussex Community Foundation since it was set up in 2006. Under his leadership Sussex Community Foundation has become a major funder of charities in Sussex. He was Director of the Carers Centre for Brighton & Hove from 1999 to 2006. Kevin is a trustee of UKCF and lives in Bexhill-on-Sea.

 

Mebrak Ghebreweldi

Finally, panellist, Director of Vandu Languages, DRI and Waniney our very own Mebrak Ghebreweldi. Born and raised in Eritrea, East Africa, Mebrak is the founder, co-founder and director of three community development and communication organisations. Through her social entrepreneurial work, she is arguably amongst those most qualified and knowledgeable in the field of inclusive leadership and community engagement. She combined her education and lived experience of war and conflict to challenge local and global inequality.
